Prof. Pierluigi Feliciati

Pierluigi is assistant professor and full researcher in Records and Information Science at the University of Macerata since 2007. He worked previously at the Italian Ministry of Culture, Archives Section and was the coordinator of the National Archives web information system. Since 2010 he is the vice-president for Information and Archival System of the University of Macerata. In 2013 he was the director of the 2nd International Summer School in Policies and Practices in Access to Digital Archives, funded by CEI and OSF. He is the coordinator of the archival science section of the international scientific journal JLIS.it and member of the scientific board of other scientific journals (Archivi, Digitalia, Il Capitale Culturale). In 2019 he was visiting professor at the LAIS-i School of the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) and teacher of the course on Records and Information Governance at the Master in Archival Science, 2019.

Summary of content: 

The speaker will present the opportunities opened by adopting the Wikimedia ecosystem to engage university students in the online collaborative co-creation of content about cultural heritage and touristic destinations. The presentation will include Wikimedia projects’; main characters and features (Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, WikiVoyage and Wiki Loves Monuments).

Last years the University of Macerata organised several workshops and initiatives for students based on the Wikimedia ecosystem, working on local destinations, cultural heritage topics, typical local recipes and so on. The speaker will present some of the initiatives. The speaker will moderate a Focus group discussion on the pros and cons of adopting Wikimedia as an online working platform for university students, in particular about cultural and touristic topics.
